In this time of waiting, of preparation, not only for Nepal but also to graduate high school, there are a thousand questions, doubts, and hard decisions surrounding me. But in this season, the Lord has been present in every moment. In a recent conversation with my admissions advisor for this trip, he encouraged me that we don’t always have to figure everything out, sometimes we just need to take the next step. As I shared this with a friend, she immediately said that it reminded her of the story of Peter walking on water; Peter stayed above the waves by taking one step at a time with his eyes on Jesus.

Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:28-33)

During this moment on the sea, Jesus didn’t ask anything more of Peter than to just “Come”. God isn’t calling us to do everything, to be everything, He just wants our hearts. He just wants us to take one more step towards Him, to spend one more moment with Him, and He promises to take care of the rest. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts, to not rely on our understanding, but to surrender fully to Him, knowing that He will guide us, knowing that He will make our paths straight.

It’s also important to note that Jesus immediately reached out and saved Peter when he lost sight of the next step. We can find hope in that even when we lose focus, when we take our eyes off Him, and our faith is shaken, He is right there to pull us from the waves.

Whatever your “next step” looks like today, I encourage you to take it. Don’t let other’s expectations disable you. Don’t allow fear to hold you back. He’s got you. Give Father your heart and have confidence that He will lead you. He wants you to come. You don’t have to do it all now. You just have to take one more step.

Also, Nepal has been approved!! I’m not sure what ministry will look like yet but the trip is definitely a go! If you want to keep following me through this journey please subscribe to my blog, I would love to continue to share with you how the Lord is working through this trip 🙂
